Buffalo's 1998-99 Season and the Longest Night in June
In 1998-99, Buffalo had a goaltender nobody could beat and not much else on paper.
Dominik Hasek stopped .937 of the shots he faced and won another Vezina. The Sabres were outshot night after night and kept winning anyway. They finished seventh in the East, then swept Ottawa, beat Boston in six and Toronto in five to reach the Final for the second time in their history. On June 19, 1999, in the third overtime of Game 6, the season ended on a goal that a lot of Western New York still has not accepted.
No Goal tells the whole season a stretch at a time, with the weather, the crowds, the fights and the box scores, plus charts drawn from the box scores, fifty trivia questions in three periods and overtime, and the full season's stats. Narrated by Greg Hartwell, an Amherst insurance adjuster who never stopped reviewing the footage.
